In this body of work entitled Sanctuary, I saint the birds that inspired the work both aesthetically and spiritually.

The word sanctuary has dual meanings, and both meanings are reflected in expressive renderings of birds indigenous to the southeast. The cardinals, robins, doves, finches and hawks featured in these works are just some of the hundreds of the birds that visit my backyard throughout the year. When I began this body of work, I studied basic ornithology in books and by observation.

I began with anatomical drawings and experimented with color utilizing oil paint. I experimented with many textures within this work.

Birds are divine reminders of an great architect with plenty of imagination.
